Pokémon Battle Research (1)

By Matt

Hi, I'm Matt, your friend in the vast Pokémon world! At great length, I have composed a thesis on Pokémon battles and the best solutions. I have to thank Tinkerbell, for helping me beat the Elite Four and helping me reach the Sevii Islands. Start winning battles today!

Normal: Does ½ damage to Rock and Steel

Does no damage to Ghost.

Fire: Does 2x damage to Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel.

Does ½ damage to Fire, Water, Rock, and Dragon.

Water: Does 2x damage to Fire, Ground, and Rock.

Does ½ damage to Water, Grass, and Dragon.

Grass: Does 2x damage to Water, Ground, and Rock

Does ½ damage to Fire, Grass, Poison, Flying, Bug, Dragon, and Steel.

Electric: Does 2x damage to Water and Flying.

Does ½ damage to Grass, Electric, and Dragon.

Does no damage to Ground.

Ice: Does 2x damage to Grass, Ground, Flying, and Dragon.

(4x damage to Dragon according to Kiria!)

Does ½ damage to Fire, Water, Ice, and Steel.

Fighting: Does 2x damage to Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark and Steel.

Does ½ damage to Poison, Flying, Psychic, and Bug.

Does no damage to Ghost.

Poison: Does 2x damage to Grass

Does ½ damage to Poison, Ground, Rock, and Ghost.

Does no damage to steel.

Ground: Does 2x damage to Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock and Steel

Does ½ damage to Grass and Bug.

Does no damage to Flying.

Flying: Does 2x damage to Grass, Fighting and Bug

Does ½ damage to Electric, Rock and Steel.

Psychic: Does 2x damage to Fighting and Ground.

Does ½ damage to Psychic and Steel.

Does no damage to Dark.

Bug: Does 2x damage to Grass, Psychic and Dark.

Does ½ damage to Fire, Fighting, Poison, Flying, Ghost and Steel

Rock: Does 2x damage to Fire, Ice, Flying and Bug.

Does ½ damage to Fighting, Ground and Steel

Ghost: Does 2x damage to Psychic and Ghost.

Does ½ damage to Dark and Steel.

Does no damage to Normal.

Dragon: Does 2x damage to Dragon.

Does ½ damage to Steel.

Dark: Does 2x damage to Psychic and Ghost.

Does ½ damage to Fighting, Dark and Steel.

Steel: Does 2x damage to Ice and Rock.

Does ½ damage to Fire, Water, Electric and Steel.

So, after looking at the data, I came up with this pathetic summary. With two exceptions (Dragon and Ghost) it is not the best idea to use a Pokémon of the same type of your opponent. Also, use your common sense. Does fire burn a leaf? Does water extinguish fire? Of course it does. But using ice against water does not work as well as you might hope.

Against dual types, use a Pokémon that can extinguish one (or both) of the types. For example:

Pikachu (electric) vs. Wingull (water-flying)

Uses thunder shock

(1.5 multiplier for attack the same type as executor) 1.5

Electric vs. water = super effective 1.5 + 2.0

Electric vs. flying = super effective 1.5 + 2.0 + 2.0 = 5.5 total multiplier.

Wow!

Impress your friends with your new battle knowledge by crushing their team based on brute force. (Be careful, even if water triumphs over fire, a Lv. 5 Squirtle is no match against a Lv. 50 Charizard. Sorry.) But in Pokémon Stadium Poké Cup, where the level limit is (like) 50, this knowledge will give you the edge in the competition.

Another thing to be concerned with is the Legendary Birds. If you use them in the Elite Four, beware! Since Flying is weak against Ice and Electric, you can easily go from having the upper hand to straggling for life. To eliminate this problem, level the birds to the highest levels possible, and execute your attacks quickly.

When battling against Pokémon of the same type as you, even if you are levels higher than the challenger, think twice. Here's a scenario:

You have a weak Pokémon battling a weak Ponyta. Your Pokémon gets the Ponyta down to a sliver of life, then (due to burn, poison, etc.) faints. You send out your Lv. 56 Charizard, and use Blast Burn. If the Ponyta has a certain special ability, the attack power will actually RESTORE its life. This works with water too.

With the right amount of training, and using common sense, you will always win, even if the going is tough. Never give up!

Peace Out!

Matt
